Christmas is over…we’re heading into a bold year with great expectations if not for ourselves than for TV. “Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies.” ? Andy Dufresne, Shawshank Redemption

The Simpsons: Season 32 (8 p.m. / Fox)

Sammy Suggestion: Death to 2020 (Anytime / Netflix)

Take a look back at 2020 through a Black Mirror! Producer and Written by Charlie Brooker Death to 2020 stars Samuel L. Jackson, Hugh Grant plus many more: and it’s narrated by Laurence Fishburne. So that’s Neo-oh. Should be good dark black humour fun.

So rather than subject you to typical TV recommendations for this rather slow week (seriously: on Christmas Eve TBS is running The Christmas Story on a 24 hour loop.) let’s look ahead to 2021 and see what we can expect (we hope!). This is just 5 simple selections…there’s so much more coming in 2021; this is the start of the conversation.

Sammy Suggestion: War of the Worlds: Season 2 (Early-2021 / EPIX & CBC Gem)

Originally War of the Worlds premiered on October 28, 2019 on MyCanal/Fox in France. America did not get it until February 2020 while Canada waited…

Still a bit more Christmas Sneer Than Christmas Cheer considering the late date but I’m trying!

The Simpsons: Season 32 (8 p.m. / Fox)

Sammy Suggestion: Pennyworth: Season 2 (9 p.m. / EPIX)

SEASON PREMIERE! Alfred Pennyworth is no longer in Batman comics (RIP!) but he lives on in TV with all kinds of EPIX adventures. “In Pennyworth: Season 2 civil war has erupted in London, leaving Alfred in the middle and looking for an escape route.” Season 2 will feature the introduction of Lucius Fox (Simon Manyonda) who if you’ve read DC Comics will make you say oooo. …

We’re getting deeper into the Holiday Season…so you know what that means right? A Lord of the Rings style quest to find non-Christmas movies. I…didn’t totally succeed. My Bad: We Good?

The Simpsons: Season 32 (8 p.m. / Fox)
Fargo: Season 4 (9 p.m. / FX)
Moonbase 8 (11 p.m. / Showtime)

Sammy Suggestion: The Reagans (8 p.m. / Showtime)

The series finale of The Reagans. The fourth and final episode explores the Reagans’ second term (including Iran-Contra scandal). It also reveals why the docuseries is called The Reagans plural; this isn’t just about Ronald Reagan’s presidency. Nancy’s behind-the-scenes machinations…

You know what’s telling?

People will cheer wildly cheer for the usual stuff: I’m the first woman: YEAH! We won!: YEAH! (The whole thing was like a victory parade for a sports team: we’re gonna repeat!)

But whenever either one of them says we have work to do…nobody cheers for the work. Kamala Harris said work 7 times: “…because now is when the real work begins, the hard work, the necessary work, the good work…”

While Biden contributed: “Let this grim era of demonization in America begin to end — here and now. The refusal of Democrats and Republicans…

Well, that’s that: the NBA Bubble has popped: the bubble has wrapped.

The end was so disappointing in a dark basketball year where we buried David Stern and Kobe. For LeBron to succeed in any fashion was yet another tragedy: We should be championing greatness instead of cheering weakness.

I’m sorry for Kobe: he…we: all deserved better. Yet despite the gruesome conclusion: the NBA pulled it off. Well done good sirs. I thought for sure booty was gonna ruin it!

The NBA Finals ended on October 11, 2020, 355 days after the October 22, 2019, regular-season opening day, and 377…

It’s the second Game 7 of the NBA Playoffs!!

How Sweet It Is.

Though as we saw with the first series: Nuggets vs Jazz the ebb and flow/momentum of a playoff series in the Orlando Bubble doesn’t unfold smoothly or traditionally. It partly explains how a team that was .5 away from being up 3 is now facing a Game 7.

And of course, there’s no home court so the psychology of players and how players feed off energy are all gonna be affected. It’s all weird.

Ultimately Celtics vs Raptors will be determined by the Might of the Midgets…

I had the strangest dream.

I dreamt that a bunch of us were trapped on a submarine (the watercraft vessel, not the sandwich food; this is a dream so either scenario makes sense. But yes the Navy submersible.).

Only on this submarine each of the rooms was decorated like a Leave It to Beaver 1950s style living room. Imagine the Wonder Years house mashed into a submarine.

And I was in this 1950s living room (in a submarine) on a couch trying to read a book and sip my tea when this strange woman kept pacing and panicking because we…

Did you watch the Nuggets-Jazz ending? One of wildest finishes for a Game 7; sloppy; some luck and it was all over: Jazz blew a 3–1 lead. That series was lots of fun…zero D it was like it was 7 All-Star Games.

Nuggets go sooooo lucky when that final 3 popped out. Whew.

Well, tonight another game 7! I’m rooting for the Thunder; I just don’t have confidence in the Rockets.

Oh speaking of confidence…Raptors game was ugly down the stretch. For most of the 4th, that was winnable in terms of score but the Toronto players vanished. I…

The Cleveland Plain Dealer. (And if you can’t read the fine print above, it states, “Gone. 7 years in Cleveland. No rings.”)

On July 8, 2010 ESPN handed LeBron an hour of prime time television. You don’t need a crystal ball to know where this is going…but it helps.

10 years later LeBron James’ Decision has been durably prophetic. He came into Jordan’s NBA house wearing 23 throwing chalk dust into the air and asked to be recognized as a king…in the absence of any significant championship achievements. Umm, yeah not gonna happen.

If an NBA player wants to leave one team for another team that’s great. Free agency has only been around since 1988; this isn’t some ABA afros era CBA…
